How do I plan a Christmas campaign with creators, and when does it need to be ready?
Plan back from your order cut-off, the last day to order for delivery by Christmas Eve (Thursday 24 December 2026). For posts from the first Sunday of Advent (29 November), approach creators by late October, or by early November without samples. An affiliate programme alone brings no planned Christmas posts: anyone who should post needs a request, terms, a date and their own link. In Germany, sales from the week before Christmas are usually final only in late January 2027.

The timeline, counted back from your order cut-off

| Settle Christmas sales | from late January 2027 | from late January 2027 |
Your fixed point is the order cut-off: the last day someone can order and still get delivery by Christmas Eve. Work it out from your carrier’s last posting date for Christmas minus the time your warehouse needs to pack. The carrier sets that date itself; use its date rather than an estimate. The 18 December in the table is just an example. In it, the last posts mentioning delivery by Christmas Eve go out two days before the cut-off, so people still have time to order after seeing them.
The lead times are examples too: one week for confirmations, one for the brief and choosing samples, two from sending samples to approval, and just under one until the first post. Without samples there is nothing to ship: confirmations and the brief happen in the same week, leaving two weeks for drafts and approval. That works with creators who already own or feature your products. A one-page brief gets approved faster.
Why an affiliate programme alone isn’t enough at Christmas
| Route | What happens before Advent | What makes it hard |
|---|---|---|
| Affiliate programme or network listing | creators can link to you, but there is no date | most partners never become active; you don’t know in advance who posts in Advent |
| Individual requests with a fee or samples | date and content are set in the agreement | every agreement is handled one by one, samples add lead time |
| Campaign with many creators, paid for results | one budget, shared rules and one time frame for everyone | who joins isn’t known in advance; each creator needs their own link or code |
An affiliate programme, a listing in an affiliate network or a platform where creators can pick products only makes your products linkable. Each creator decides for themselves if they post about them in Advent, and the creators you most want for your brand usually don’t post without a reason.
At Christmas, time is tight. In 2026 there are just under three weeks between the first Sunday of Advent and an order cut-off on 18 December. Many creators need to post in that window at the same time, and you only know which of them sold once withdrawals and returns are through in late January. So the real job is activating creators, many at once, and then seeing who sells. Each of them needs a request, terms, a date and their own link or code.
Four phases in which people buy differently
of respondents start buying most of their Christmas presents in November (33%) or early December (26%).
HDE consumer barometer, HRI survey conducted by YouGov, 2,060 respondents, 22 to 24 October 2025, sum calculated by usof the retail companies surveyed expected the busiest time of the 2025 Christmas trade to be the week before the fourth Sunday of Advent.
HDE trend survey October/November 2025, 300 companies| Phase | 2026 | What goes into the posts |
|---|---|---|
| Gift ideas | from November | ideas by person and budget, sets, advent calendars before 1 Dec |
| Sale days | Fri 27 Nov to Mon 30 Nov | discount with a genuine end date, buying gifts early |
| Advent weeks | Sun 29 Nov to order cut-off | state the delivery date, bestsellers, last ideas |
| Vouchers and after | from order cut-off into January | digital gift vouchers, redeeming, exchanges |
The sale days fall in the middle of the Christmas trade. According to a survey of over 1,000 online shoppers by IFH Köln for HDE in October 2025, 54% of respondents use Black Friday for Christmas shopping too. In 2026 the first Sunday of Advent comes two days after Black Friday, and the fourth falls on 20 December. How to plan the sale days themselves is covered in the Black Friday guide.
It doesn’t stop at Christmas. Gift vouchers topped the planned Christmas presents in HDE’s 2025 survey (29% of respondents), and 18% planned to give cash. According to HDE, the days between Christmas and New Year are usually busy again: many people are on holiday then and spend cash gifts or redeem vouchers. 14% of the retail companies surveyed in autumn 2025 expected the busiest time to be after the holidays.
How big the Christmas trade is
retail sales in Germany in November and December 2025, HDE forecast, 1.5% up on the previous year in nominal terms.
HDE, forecast of 5 November 2025of that online, HDE forecast, 3.3% up on the previous year in nominal terms.
HDE, forecast of 5 November 2025of annual retail sales are made in November and December.
HDE calculation based on the Federal Statistical Office, figures for 2024of the €5.8bn forecast for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025 goes on Christmas shopping, according to HDE.
HDE, forecast of 17 November 2025The sales figures are 2025 forecasts from the German retail association HDE (Handelsverband Deutschland). Adjusted for prices, HDE says the 1.5% rise means zero growth. As of 22 October 2026, HDE had not yet published a forecast for 2026; the 2025 forecast came out on 5 November 2025.
How much the year end matters depends on the category. According to HDE, cosmetics and personal care make 19.6% of their annual sales in November and December, watches and jewellery 22.5% and toys 24.9% (2024 figures).
A forecast is not a result. In an HDE trend survey of around 300 retail companies from 19 to 21 December 2025, 66% were dissatisfied with the Christmas trade so far and 17% satisfied. For your own planning, your figures from last year count for more than the sector average.
What to check before you start
- Stock per variant: check size, colour and quantity of exactly the products creators feature. If the size shown is sold out, nobody can buy what they saw in the post.
- Delivery time: put your order cut-off on the product pages and into the brief, so nobody promises a delivery date your warehouse can’t keep.
- Vouchers: if you sell digital gift vouchers, give creators their own link or code for them. Then sales after your order cut-off can still be attributed, and you see who brought them in.
- Ad disclosure: put the German media authorities’ guidance into the brief: for images and text, “Werbung” or “Anzeige” (advertisement) at the start; in a video where your product plays the main part, “Werbung” or “Werbevideo” (advertising video) on screen for the whole video or promotional sequence; for gift ideas spread over several story slides, every promotional slide labelled separately. A discount code or a link from the partnership needs “Werbung” or “Anzeige” right next to it; a plain affiliate link needs at least an asterisk with an explanation. “ad” is not enough.
- Settlement: decide in advance when a sale counts towards pay, meaning after the withdrawal and return periods. If you voluntarily offer longer returns at Christmas, work from their end and put that date into the terms.
Worked example: when a Christmas sale is final
| Delivery | Withdrawal by | Goods sent back by |
|---|---|---|
| Thu 17 Dec 2026 | Thu 31 Dec 2026 | Thu 14 Jan 2027 |
| Sat 19 Dec 2026 | Mon 4 Jan 2027 | Mon 18 Jan 2027 |
| Tue 22 Dec 2026 | Tue 5 Jan 2027 | Tue 19 Jan 2027 |
| Thu 24 Dec 2026 | Thu 7 Jan 2027 | Thu 21 Jan 2027 |
In Germany, consumers who order online can usually withdraw within 14 days (§ 312g(1), § 355(2) BGB, German Civil Code). § 312g(2) BGB lists exceptions. For presents, these include goods made to personal specifications and sealed goods that are unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once the seal has been removed after delivery. For goods, the period only starts once they have arrived (§ 356(2) no. 1 BGB), and only after a correct withdrawal notice (§ 356(3) BGB). Without one, the right of withdrawal expires 12 months and 14 days after delivery at the latest (§ 356(4) BGB).
This is how the dates in the table come about: the day of delivery does not count (§ 187(1) BGB), and the period ends with the 14th day (§ 188(1) BGB). If that day is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the next working day takes its place (§ 193 BGB). For delivery on Saturday 19 December, the period therefore ends on Monday 4 January 2027 instead of Saturday 2 January. Sending the withdrawal in time is enough to meet the deadline (§ 355(1) BGB).
Anyone who withdraws then has 14 days from their withdrawal to send the goods back (§ 355(3), § 357(1) BGB). The third column shows the latest case, a withdrawal on the last day. The shop may hold back the refund until the goods are back or proof of posting has been provided, unless it offered to collect them (§ 357(4) BGB). So you know by early to mid-January which Christmas sales were withdrawn, and only towards the end of January 2027 which returns have actually come back. If you voluntarily offer a longer returns period, the date moves accordingly.
How it works on wyrld
With wyrld Boost you put your Christmas budget behind creators who feature your products, starting right away. You put up a campaign budget and set the products, KPIs and time frame, for example the Advent weeks up to your order cut-off. Many creators can take part at once and feature your products in their own videos and storefronts; they label the campaign videos as advertising. Each creator decides for themselves if they join, so wyrld does not promise a number of participants, reach or sales. The pool goes to the creators according to the KPIs reached, such as purchases, clicks, watch time or reach, and you and wyrld agree before launch how it is split. You also decide where people buy: only in your shop, on Amazon or with price comparison across the shops that carry your product. After the campaign you see which creator brought which results.
The brand and shop subscription shows you every day which creators on wyrld feature your products and who actually sells, as far as your shop reports sales. wyrld can set up custom terms with these creators or plan a Boost campaign with you. Because they already feature your products, the sample step in the timeline can drop out for them.
On wyrld, hundreds of creators feature products in their own storefronts, mostly in fashion, beauty and interiors, with a young audience, largely Gen Z. You connect through an affiliate programme on one of the big affiliate networks, through which creators can usually pick your products already, or directly with wyrld. Prices for the subscription and Boost are available on request.
Frequently asked questions.
When should I approach influencers for a Christmas campaign?
Count back from the first post. With a week for confirmations, one for the brief and samples, two from sending samples to approval and just under one until the post, you need about five weeks. For posts from the first Sunday of Advent, Sunday 29 November 2026, that means approaching creators by late October. Without samples, early November is enough.
Is early November too late for a Christmas campaign with creators?
Not necessarily. In the example plan, sending samples takes the most time. If you approach creators who already own or feature your products and keep the brief to one page, about four weeks to the first post is enough. For posts from the first Sunday of Advent, that means approaching them by early November. Each creator decides for themselves if they agree at such short notice.
Is an affiliate programme enough to get creators to feature my products at Christmas?
Usually not. In the programme, creators can link to your products, but they decide for themselves if they do so in Advent, and many partners in a programme never become active. Anyone who should post between the first Sunday of Advent and your order cut-off needs a concrete request with terms and a date, plus their own link or code, so you can see afterwards who sold.
When do most people buy their Christmas presents?
According to a Handelsblatt Research Institute survey for HDE in October 2025, 33% of respondents start buying most of their presents in November, 26% in early December and 11% in mid-December. 5% start in October and 1% on 23 or 24 December. 11% buy throughout the year.
Is a creator campaign after Christmas still worth it?
For shops that sell vouchers, there is a good case. According to HDE, the days between Christmas and New Year are usually busy again: many people are on holiday then and spend cash gifts or redeem vouchers. Gift vouchers topped the planned Christmas presents in HDE’s 2025 survey. Posts after Christmas can show what a voucher can be spent on.
When do I pay creators for Christmas sales?
Ideally once you know which sales will stand. Consumers in Germany can usually withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days of delivery. If an order arrives on 22 December, that runs until 5 January 2027. Anyone who withdraws on that day must send the goods back by 19 January. Set the settlement date in your terms beforehand.
